On Architecture has been appointed to deliver the residential conversion of Batchworth House in Rickmansworth, transforming the upper floors of a four-storey office building into eight high-quality apartments while retaining commercial space at ground level. Situated just 250 metres from the town centre and a short walk from Rickmansworth Station, the scheme offers sustainable housing in a highly accessible, well-connected location — ideal for modern, urban living.
The design respects the surrounding architectural context, with a refined elevational strategy that includes a new buff brick upper storey, a mansard roof to reduce visual impact, and updated fenestration for improved natural light and a contemporary feel. Sustainability sits at the core of the project, with energy-efficient construction methods, renewable energy solutions, and enhanced insulation delivering low-impact, future-ready homes. Cycle storage, dedicated parking, and pedestrian-friendly access further support active travel and sustainable lifestyles.
This carefully considered redevelopment breathes new life into an existing structure, contributing to Rickmansworth’s evolving character through sensitive adaptive reuse, architectural quality, and a commitment to sustainability.
